The question of what should be done with the Suzuki property was raised at a recent candidate’s forum..here are the candidates’ answers:

North Ward, District 7

Ron Peltier - strongly opposed the 100-unit Suzuki plan

Joe Deets - was a strong supporter of the 100-unit plan for Suzuki

Central Ward

Rasham Nassar - was a vocal opponent of the 100-unit plan and voted against it

Clarence Moriwaki - position is unclear but said only that "90% of our island is wooded or open areas, only 10% is built, so we [are] way ahead on our green coverage,”

South Ward

Kent Scott - made it clear at the BI Senior Community Center candidate’s forum that he does not support the 100-unit plan

Jon Quitslund - believes the Suzuki process was flawed. In an email follow-up referring to the 100-unit plan, he wrote: "...owned and managed by Housing Resources Bainbridge, would be the best use of the property."

North Ward, District 2

Brenda Fantroy-Johnson - stated that if "they (the neighbors) have a problem with something, if we can't make it work (with the neighbors), then it’s just not workable."

Chris Smith - response to the Suzuki question at the BI Senior Community Center candidate’s forum was a bit unclear, so we followed up with him Via email said that "Suzuki is an appropriate site for affordable housing….. up to 75 units could be acceptable. But also could “..envision the property being devoted to a nature preserve.”
